Gem Analysis Service

From January 2024, Argyle Diamonds Limited (ADL) commenced a programme whereby it will work exclusively with renowned independent laboratory, Gemlab (Belgium) BV (GGTL), who will undertake an analysis process using current scientific knowledge and proprietary techniques to identify pink, red, blue or violet diamonds that exhibit characteristics corresponding to those present in diamonds from the Argyle Diamond Mine. Where such analysis indicates that similar characteristics are present, to a reasonable degree of confidence, ADL will inscribe those diamonds with a unique lot number (visible only under magnification) and issue the diamond with an Argyle Pink Diamonds™ Gem Analysis Report. Each diamond will also able to be searched via the Diamond Check tool.

The Gem Analysis Service is accessible only by Argyle Pink Diamonds™ Authorised Partners, Select Ateliers and eligible trade customers.

Methodology:

Pink, red, blue and violet diamonds from the Argyle Diamond Mine are amongst the rare coloured natural diamonds that can be distinguished from similarly coloured diamonds from other origins. The geographical origin determination of diamonds is otherwise generally not possible.

GGTL undertakes an analytical protocol, based on scientific knowledge and proprietary techniques current at the time of each assessment, to identify physical and chemical characteristics similar to those exhibited by diamonds from the Argyle Diamond Mine to a reasonable degree of confidence, including: Raman/photoluminescence spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, DFI fluorescence analysis and microscopic analysis.

Conditions:

The following conditions apply to the Gem Analysis Service:

  1. An affirmative result regarding the identification of characteristics similar to those exhibited by diamonds from the Argyle Diamond Mine must reached by two specialists who have independently carried out analyses based on the required protocol and achieved corresponding results.
  2. Such affirmative result is given as information only as the most likely indication of origin and represents only an opinion. The indicated deposit origin refers only to the similarities of the physical and chemical characteristics observed on the analysed sample(s) and the data generally available on deposit samples known at the time of the analysis.
  3. Analyses conducted by GGTL are based on scientific knowledge and proprietary techniques acknowledged in specialised scientific literature and current at the time of assessment. These conclusions cannot take into account the evolution of applicable knowledge and techniques.
  4. GGTL will not have regard to scientific technology or techniques that are not published in specialised scientific literature and satisfactorily peer-reviewed by the international scientific community, and such material will be considered to be inadmissible.
  5. The analysis by GGTL, and subsequent colour and clarity grading by ADL, are based on the condition and colour of the analysed samples at the time of assessment and do not account for any treatment that could subsequently be applied to the material, or later damage to or deterioration of colour observed in, the material.
  6. Neither GGTL or ADL assumes any responsibility regarding the long-term stability of the colour of the analysed samples.
  7. Unless required by law, GGTL is not bound to justify its methodology, technical reasoning or any other means or process adopted to reach it conclusions.
  8. The validity of weights noted is to the second decimal only. Notation of a third decimal as index indicates only a trend.
  9. Neither the analysis process undertaken by GGTL, nor any Gem Analysis Report or Diamond Check service result issued by ADL, represent a guarantee, appraisal or valuation of the relevant diamond.
  10. GGTL and ADL will not be liable for (i) any errors, inaccuracies or omissions in the analysis process undertaken by GGTL, or appearing in any Gem Analysis Report or the Diamond Check service results issued by ADL, including as a result of the evolution of scientific knowledge or techniques or (ii) for any direct, special, indirect or consequential damages or losses, or any other damages or losses of whatsoever kind, resulting from whatever cause, arising out of or in connection with reliance on or use of any conclusions arising out of the analysis process undertaken by GGTL, any Gem Analysis Report or the Diamond Check service result issued by ADL, or any information obtained either directly or indirectly from or through this website.

The above exclusions and limitations apply only to the extent permitted by law.
